Belgian authorities have arrested three young suspects in Antwerp in connection with a thwarted jihadist terror plot targeting top politicians, including Prime Minister Bart De Wever. The federal prosecutor"s office announced the arrests on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The suspects, born in 2001, 2002, and 2007, were apprehended during police raids that uncovered a homemade explosive device, steel balls, and plans for a drone-borne attack. Two of the suspects remain in custody for questioning on charges of attempted terrorist murder and group involvement.
Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot described the plot as "extremely shocking," highlighting the ongoing terror risks in Belgium, which has seen 80 new cases this year. The country"s threat level remains classified as "serious."
