China has expelled General He Weidong, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and the No. 3 official in the People"s Liberation Army (PLA), on charges of corruption and abuse of power, according to an announcement from the Defense Ministry on Friday.
In addition to General He, eight other senior military officers were also dismissed from the Communist Party and military for "serious duty-related crimes involving an extremely large amount of money." Among those expelled are Adm. Miao Hua, the former head of the Central Military Commission"s political work department, and Gen. Lin Xiangyang, the ex-commander of the Eastern Theater Command.
This action is part of a broader anti-corruption campaign within the Chinese military, which has seen multiple high-ranking officials removed in recent years. The crackdown aims to address corruption and restore integrity within the armed forces.
