ECOWAS has announced the immediate deployment of a Standby Force to Benin following a failed coup attempt. The regional force will consist of troops from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Republic of Côte d"Ivoire, and the Republic of Ghana.

The purpose of the deployment is to support the Government and the Republican Army of Benin in preserving constitutional order and maintaining the territorial integrity of the Republic of Benin.
