Egypt"s Foreign Ministry announced on October 4, 2025, that it will mediate indirect negotiations between Israeli and Hamas delegations on October 6 in Cairo. The discussions will focus on advancing a prisoner exchange as outlined in U.S. President Donald Trump"s Gaza peace proposal.
The proposal includes the release of all remaining Israeli hostages, which are estimated to be 48, with 20 believed to be alive. In exchange, 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 others detained since the war began would be released.
This mediation effort follows recent developments in the region and aims to facilitate dialogue between the conflicting parties.
