Fiji will officially open its embassy in Jerusalem on September 17, 2025, with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka attending the inauguration. This move makes Fiji the seventh country to establish an embassy in the city, following the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Paraguay, and Papua New Guinea.
The decision to open the embassy stems from a coalition agreement made after Fiji"s 2022 elections. It was reaffirmed in early 2025 during a meeting between Prime Minister Rabuka and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. The establishment of the embassy also reflects the longstanding advocacy by Christian groups in the Pacific in support of Israel.
In a statement, Sa’ar expressed his congratulations to Fiji and Rabuka, calling Jerusalem the "eternal capital of the Jewish people." He emphasized Israel"s commitment to encouraging more countries to open and relocate their embassies to Jerusalem.
This development comes amid a broader context of diplomatic shifts in the region, reflecting changing international relationships and alliances. As previously reported, similar situations have emerged in various parts of the world, highlighting the evolving nature of foreign policy in the face of shifting geopolitical landscapes.
