Former director of France"s Foreign Intelligence Service (DGSE), Pierre Bronchand, has issued a warning regarding the potential consequences of unchecked immigration in France. In a recent interview, Bronchand stated that if both legal and illegal immigration are not curtailed, the authority of the French state may weaken significantly.

Bronchand acknowledged that immigration has negatively impacted France but dismissed the likelihood of civil war as a result. He expressed concern that the long-standing policy of unrestricted immigration could lead to a failure in ensuring safety and prosperity for French citizens, potentially resulting in the country becoming akin to a third-world nation.

He argued that historical precedents of civil unrest, such as the revolutions of 1848 and the 1870 Communes, are unlikely to recur, stating that political violence is not a prevailing sentiment among the indigenous population. He noted that political debates in France tend to gravitate towards centrism, with limited support for radical movements. Bronchand cited the failures of recent protests, including the Yellow Vests movement, as evidence that no significant movement exists to challenge the current political order.

Bronchand further claimed that the decline of state authority and social cohesion will stem from migrants retaining cultural ties to their countries of origin, despite being in France for generations. He asserted that the Global South harbors resentment towards the Global North, a sentiment that persists regardless of the length of time immigrants have lived in France.

He predicted that a majority African and Muslim population in France is "inevitable" before the 22nd century, with interethnic violence becoming commonplace. Bronchand concluded that demographic changes will only stabilize when France becomes less appealing to immigrants, alongside the enforcement of deportation orders and stricter penalties for migrant offenses.
