The French Parliament has officially denounced the 1968 Franco-Algerian Migrant Pact, which facilitated residency permits for Algerian citizens in France. The bill was proposed by the Rassemblement National (RN), led by Marine Le Pen, and received support from the center-right Les Républicains (LR), headed by Bruno Retailleau, as well as the Horizons group (HOR), a coalition that backs President Emmanuel Macron"s government.
The resolution passed with a narrow margin of 185 votes in favor and 184 against. This marks the first bill promoted by the RN that has been approved by the French Parliament, indicating a potential shift in the political landscape as the firewall against right-wing parties appears to be weakening.
Opposition from leftist and liberal parties was present, but they did not have enough members in attendance to prevent the bill"s passage.
