French photojournalist Antoni Lallican, 37, was killed today in a targeted Russian FPV drone strike near Druzhkivka in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Lallican was embedded with Ukraine"s 4th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade at the time of the attack. His press credentials were clearly marked, and he had been documenting the war since March 2022. His work has been featured in prominent publications including Le Monde, Le Figaro, and Der Spiegel. In the same incident, his Ukrainian colleague Heorhii Ivanchenko was seriously wounded.
Lallican is the fourth French journalist to be killed in the ongoing conflict, following Arman Soldin and Émilie Blachère, both killed in 2023, and Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, who was killed in 2022. The International Federation of Journalists condemned the drone strike as a war crime and called for an investigation into the incident. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences, labeling the attack as an act of Russian aggression.
