Hundreds of families from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay arrived at Naval Air Station Pensacola as Hurricane Melissa approaches the Caribbean. On Saturday, nearly 864 non-mission essential personnel, including family members, civilian employees, contractors, and pets, were evacuated to the facility.
This evacuation comes as the powerful hurricane continues to churn through the region, prompting safety measures for those at risk. The arrival of evacuees at NAS Pensacola highlights the ongoing preparations in response to the storm.
As previously reported, similar situations have arisen in the past when severe weather threatens military installations and their personnel.
