Kenyan authorities have rescued 22 men from a trafficking network that lured them with job offers in Moscow, only to force them into combat for Russian forces in Ukraine. The rescue operation was conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, which raided a flat in Athi River where the victims were located.
Many of the victims had surrendered their passports and paid thousands of dollars in hopes of securing employment. They were awaiting deportation when they were found. One suspect has been detained in connection with the case, and investigations have revealed a larger syndicate allegedly led by a Russian national, who was arrested earlier this week.
This incident highlights ongoing issues related to human trafficking and exploitation in the region. For more on related coverage, see recent developments in Madagascar.
