Lithuania has completed the dismantling of the last power lines connecting it to Russia. The national electricity transmission operator, Litgrid, announced that the cross-border power lines linking Lithuania with Russia’s Kaliningrad region have been fully removed.
The dismantling process began in early February 2025, following the synchronization of the Baltic states with Europe’s power grid. This marked the end of 65 years of operating within the same electrical system as Russia and Belarus. Additionally, plans are in place to cut off Belarus by 2027.
This development is part of Lithuania"s broader efforts to enhance its energy independence and security in the region.
