Negotiations between Israeli and American officials are set to resume tomorrow in Cairo, Egypt, following a period of heightened tensions. The Israeli delegation will not attend discussions in Qatar. Steve Witkoff will represent the United States, while Ron Dermer, Israel"s Minister of Strategic Affairs, will attend for Israel.
In preparation for the talks, Israeli officials are currently working on several requirements, including maps for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) withdrawal that need to be agreed upon. Senior Israeli officials involved in the negotiations stated that Israel does not interpret Hamas"s recent statement as a sign of consent for dialogue, contrary to the interpretation by former President Trump. They believe Trump "left Israel no choice" but to consider Hamas"s statement as one that allows for discussions, although Israel still views Hamas"s response to Trump"s plan as negative.
Israeli officials indicated that the situation is likely to be resolved within days, either through the commencement of hostage releases or a return to intense fighting. Following a halt in IDF operations in Gaza City, IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued a warning in Arabic to residents of Gaza, advising against returning to the northern Gaza Strip, stating, "IDF forces are still surrounding Gaza City, and returning there is very dangerous. Avoid returning north or approaching IDF operational areas anywhere."
