Border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan have resulted in confirmed casualties and ongoing fighting along the Pak-Afghan border. The Afghan Taliban, known as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), has launched artillery and mortar strikes targeting several Pakistani posts and installations, particularly at major border crossings.
Fighting is reported at a minimum of seven locations along the border, involving artillery, mortars, and machine guns. As a result of the clashes, two Pakistani soldiers and one civilian have been killed, with two additional individuals injured. On the Afghan side, five soldiers are reported dead, and one Afghan military post has been confirmed destroyed.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is currently conducting air strikes against Afghan forces. In response, Afghanistan has mobilized several thousand troops towards the border. Pakistan had already stationed a large border force in the area due to previous incursions by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Both nations are claiming to have taken control of or destroyed each other"s border posts. This situation is plausible given the numerous posts along the border, many of which are often unoccupied during conflicts. The border region is characterized by porous areas that facilitate cross-border movement, suggesting that ground forces from both sides may be operating on each other"s territory, albeit in limited numbers.
