Pentagon officials are preparing a major overhaul of the U.S. military command structure, according to a report by the Washington Post. The proposed changes would involve downgrading the Central Command (CENTCOM), European Command (EUCOM), and Africa Command (AFRICOM) under a new entity called "U.S. International Command." Additionally, Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) would be merged into a new "U.S. Americas Command." This restructuring aims to reduce the number of combatant commands from 11 to 8.
The initiative is designed to cut the number of four-star generals and shift the military"s focus toward the Western Hemisphere, aligning with priorities established during the Trump administration.
