The City of Rome has initiated a call for families to host migrants in their homes for a three-year period, starting immediately. This program, valued at €399,000, aims to provide accommodation for single migrants or single-parent families with valid residence permits.
The tender, which is open until September 22, seeks an operator to manage the initiative on behalf of the municipality. The selected operator will be responsible for recruiting host families, raising awareness, and supporting mentors or social workers in the process. However, families who choose to host will not receive any financial compensation for their assistance. The city’s Department of Social Policies has clarified that funds allocated for social inclusion will only cover interventions for the migrants themselves, excluding reimbursements for host families’ expenses.
This initiative comes amid growing discussions across Europe regarding the integration of migrants and the challenges associated with it. Similar situations have been observed in other cities, where local governments seek community involvement to address the needs of displaced individuals. Recently, [Video] Europe Must Unite Now to Shape New Global Power Dynamics, Says Von der Leyen, highlighted the urgency of collaborative efforts in managing migration and inclusion.
Families willing to participate must cover all costs associated with hosting, including food and energy. As the deadline approaches, the city council is actively encouraging community members to consider this opportunity to support those in need.
