Russians capture Derylovo and Novoselovka, advancing in Lyman-Seversk area

Russian forces have made significant advances in the Lyman and Seversk regions of Ukraine, capturing the village of Derylovo, most of Novoselovka, and gaining a foothold in the village of Yampol. They are reportedly close to encircling the stronghold of Seversk, which has withstood Russian attacks for three years.

Two weeks prior, the Ukrainian 3rd Assault "Azov" Brigade was redeployed from the area north of Lyman to Kupyansk, where Ukrainian defenses were reportedly weakening. This shift has coincided with an increase in the speed of Russian territorial gains in the North Donetsk Oblast.

Despite claims from former President Donald Trump that Ukraine can recover all lost territories, the current situation suggests otherwise. The absence of the Azov Brigade in the Lyman-Seversk sector raises concerns about Ukraine"s ability to prevent the Russian Army from crossing the Seversky-Donetsk River, similar to events in the summer of 2022.
