France"s political crisis deepened as Sébastien Lecornu resigned from his position as prime minister after just 27 days in office. His resignation followed the collapse of the Bayrou cabinet.
Lecornu announced the composition of his new government, which retained 13 of the 18 ministers from the previous cabinet. This decision prompted both leftwing and rightwing opposition parties to declare their intention to file a motion of no-confidence against the new government. Rather than face this challenge, Lecornu chose to resign.
In the wake of his resignation, Jewish-Algerian politician Eric Zemmour stated that “France needs early presidential elections.”
