Türkiye Calls for Development of Indigenous Nuclear Reactors

Türkiye has officially initiated a call for the development of indigenous nuclear reactors, as announced by the Ministry of Industry and Technology on September 14, 2025. This strategic initiative aims to focus on next-generation nuclear technologies that incorporate enhanced safety features.

The initiative, titled the "Domestic Nuclear Reactor Development Call," invites proposals from Turkish universities, research institutions such as TENMAK and TÜBİTAK, and local industries. The goal is to create advanced reactor designs, including small modular reactors (SMRs), to bolster the nation’s energy security and support its target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2053.
