The United Kingdom will not drill any new oil wells in the British North Sea this year, marking the first time since 1964 that such an action has not taken place. This decision is attributed to government policies.
In the previous year, the UK imported 43 million tonnes of crude oil, 31 million tonnes of refined oils, and approximately 43 billion cubic meters of gas from other countries.
This significant shift in drilling activity aligns with recent developments in environmental policies and energy sourcing strategies. As previously reported, countries around the world are increasingly focusing on renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
