Ukraine has reported that Russia has fired 23 9M729 ground-launched cruise missiles since August, including a significant strike on October 5 that reached a distance of 1,200 kilometers. The 9M729 missile is banned under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, which the United States withdrew from in 2019. The missile has a range of 2,500 kilometers.
Debris from the missile strikes has been confirmed, prompting Ukrainian officials in Kyiv to demand urgent long-range military aid.
