The U.S. State Department has announced updated procedures for non-immigrant visa applications, effective immediately. Citizens of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus can now only apply for these visas in specific cities designated by the department.
Ukrainians must submit applications in Krakow or Warsaw, while Russians can apply in Astana or Warsaw. Belarusians are required to apply in Vilnius or Warsaw. Although applications can theoretically be submitted in other countries, this is only permitted if the applicant can provide proof of actual residence in that country.
This change aims to streamline the visa process amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The restrictions come at a time when many individuals from these nations are seeking temporary entry into the U.S., often for work or educational purposes.
The impact of these new guidelines may lead to increased demand for visa appointments in the specified cities, potentially creating longer wait times for applicants. As previously reported, similar situations have arisen in other areas of immigration policy, reflecting a broader trend in U.S. immigration practices.
