The USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, which includes a cruiser and four destroyers, is currently operating approximately 210 kilometers southeast of the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. This deployment represents the largest U.S. naval presence in the region in over 25 years.
