Video: Syria held an indirect vote on October 5, 2025, for its inaugural parliament since Bashar al-Assad's ouster, with around 6,000 members of regional electoral colleges casting ballots to fill two-thirds of the 210-seat assembly. Results are expected later today.
Several regions are excluded from the process due to ongoing security concerns, local tensions, and control by non-central authorities. Specifically, the Druze-majority province of Suwayda, as well as parts of Raqqa and al-Hasakah governorates under the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), will not participate, impacting approximately 19 seats.
