The European Parliament has granted immunity to Ilaria Salis, a member of the Antifa Hammer Gang, known for violent attacks against right-wing politicians and activists. This decision comes as Hungary sought to prosecute Salis for her involvement in a series of violent incidents in Budapest.
The Antifa Hammer Gang has been linked to attacks that have left several victims, including individuals mistakenly identified as nationalists, with life-changing injuries. Despite these allegations, the European Parliament voted to provide Salis with full immunity.
In a statement, Dries van Langenhove, a former member of parliament, expressed his discontent with the decision, contrasting his own loss of immunity and subsequent prison sentence for hate speech with Salis"s continued immunity despite serious charges. He criticized the application of the law in Europe, suggesting it serves as a tool for those in power to oppress the native population.
This development follows other recent actions by the European Parliament, including endorsements of restrictions on plant-based food terms and votes to ban terms like "burger" for plant-based foods.
